Here’s a collection of podcasts about marketing from Marketing Voices, a weekly podcast that discusses how social media is affecting marketing strategy and practices, by my buddy Jennifer Jones. There’s lots of great information for entrepreneurs and small-business owners in these podcasts.

  1. Seth Godin, marketing expert, author. States that small is the new
big. People need to target audiences of 4 not 400. Told marketers he feels
they have the biggest opportunity in at least thirty years to make an impact
    given social media.

  2. Robert Scoble, blogger and vice president of media development for
PodTech. Talks about how blogging has evolved and why it is important for
    corporations to blog today.

  3. Peter Rojas, co-founder and editor of Engadget, one of the most
popular blogs on technology today. Discusses the publication, its strategy
and how to best contact editors for the publication.

  4. Phillip Bodzenta, director of global communications for Coke.
Describes how Coke used bloggers to build audience during the World Cup.
Shows pictures of bloggers at the World Cup.

  5. Sharon Wienbar, managing director, Scale Venture Partners (formerly
BA Venture Partners) on what is hot/ not in social media venture
    investing.

  6. Pete Blackshaw, chief marketing officer of Nielsen Buzzmetrics, talks
about how to measure social media.

  7. Steve Rubel, senior vice president of Edelman Public Relations.
Speaks to how social media is impacting the practice of public
    relations.

  8. Dick Costello, chief executive officer of Feedburner. He speaks about
how to get blogging and podcasting content is found and distributed.

  9. Bill Kircos, head of consumer and enterprise media for Intel.
Describes how Intel implements social media programs, most specifically,
    podcasting.

  10. Kelly Wagman, head of customer relationship marketing for Juniper
Networks. Talks about how Juniper used social media to build a community.

  11. Ross Mayfield, CEO of Socialtext, a wiki company. Describes wikis and
how they are best used in marketing.

The entire collection of Marketing Voices is here. There’s also a collection about entrepreneurship here. And this is my interview with Jennifer.

What are the top ten written sources? I don’t have anything against podcasts per se, but for me personally reading is a better way to absorb information. I hope that many good sources, such as the people you mention, don’t use all their energy producing podcasts and neglect to provide it for readers.

I might be mistaken, but I believe these podcasts are all available on iTunes (for free).

Allow me to recommend The M Show:

It is one of the longest running podcasts I can recall, run by John Wall of Boston. And it is always no more than 10 minutes of news, talk and business marketing information.

Guy — I’m enjoying listening to these, and getting lots out of them as I move from an editorial to a marketing role at my company. FWIW, here’s my take on “How to Change the World” as a title: Absolutely do use it for your book. There’s a great temptation for a lot of the folks in the crowd to regard Steve Jobs, Larry/Sergey, BillG, or even Guy K. as existing waaaaay off on a mountaintop, far beyond the ken of common mortals. This is bogus, as you well know; your examples of somebody starting a school, church, or niche blog aimed at empowering people – all of these things really *do* change the world. Hammer that home as much as you can, and even that one message or theme will, in itself, be a way of changing the world for the better. Cheers and keep up the good work! — TW

Serendipity! I clicked on my favorite link to your blog this evening with the following question in mind: Are there any great, current sources of information that discuss ways to increase blog and website traffic and community? So, thank you, and if you can recommend any good reads, it’d be much appreciated. (Now, per Robert Scoble’s podcast, back to my mission: getting on the first page of Google search results for my site’s topics. Cuz’ if I’m not on the first page…!)
